This Classic Eight is a very interesting listing. If you are not well versed in real estate (such as this writer), it seems....weird? It appears that the buyer agrees to buy the apartment and pay for the owner to live in the apartment until they die.
But what an apartment! It has the usual goodies that make a Classic Eight. Tall ceilings, plenty of natural light, a working fireplace, hardwood floors, large spacious rooms, etc. make this a showstopper. It is also in a prime location. The listing is below for you to peruse.
One interesting fact, this building was commissioned by Emily Post, the etiquette syndicated writer. Although Post was very wealthy, she began writing novels and eventually an etiquette column in the early part of the 20th Century. In 1932, Post's column was in 200 newspapers across the United States. You can still find this syndicated column in most newspapers today or at The Emily Post Institute: Etiquette Advice & Training — Emily Post.
Post wanted an apartment co-op for herself and wealthy Tuxedo Park neighbors. This apartment building still maintains its original footprint to this day with twenty apartments on 14 floors. This is unheard of in modern New York City real estate.
