August's C8 Apartment comes from the famed Dorilton. (See this month's Building History.) This month's apartment is not a Classic Eight but instead is what is called an Edwardian Five. I had never heard the term until I started researching the Dorilton. I knew of the "Classic 5" although I like the "Edwardian" term better. It's far grander!
An Edwardian Five consisted of five rooms usually one bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, and a maid's room. It was originally thought to be specifically built for bachelors and widows who would not need an extra bedroom.
This apartment still has many of the pre war details such as beautiful moldings, orate fireplaces, french doors, high ceilings and stained glass windows. The parquet floors has lovely designed wood inlays. This apartment is located in the West 70s and is listed for 1.8 million. Scroll through the pictures below to see more.
